I've downloaded blogsy and tumblr but am trying to post this one using blogpress. Let's see if it works. I still haven't figured out how to transport a photo, I took this one with the camera.

Anyways, this is what should be in my creative space, along with some cutting out of some Babbits. Time to play in the mud, admire a land of redgums, wetlands and mountains and to stop and comtemplate the little things. Or in the case of Otis, talk to all those little things
I have a helper these school holidays. A little lady with a penchant for singing really bad music ....at the top of her lungs. Who wakes at the crack of dawn and thinks everyone else needs to hear her sing said bad music. A little lady who will be 8 soon. Eight! A little lady who is growing up way too quickly.

She helps me entertain her younger siblings. Reading, playing barbies or swimming the seas as a mermaid, mooing round the farm or serving up delicious delights. She is sweet, patient and caring. And a terrific model and critique. Audrey babbit got the thumbs up. phew!Megsiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04847091598702131804noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6309603070461764782.post-65292108284988173462012-06-24T21:09:00.000-07:002012-06-24T21:09:06.402-07:00Monday

A winter gloom of misty grey has set in. So I search for colour inside. I organise my knotted threads into neat bundles and then into an anally organised rainbow of order. Wonder how long they'll look this neat.
Winter is wool season for me. It's when wool really comes into its own and becomes integral in our daily existence. For many whom I know it is not restrained to seasons, but for me it's a winter craft. Normally I pull out my knitting each winter in a vague attempt at making something wooly. But i am not a wooly maker. I suck at the clickety sticks and am yet to finish anything completely from the old hooky thingy.

However, I am very very lucky to be surrounded by clever knitty folk. The knitty gear Sage is sporting found a home with us over the last few days.

The very amazing camera I bought at the port fairy made market and was created by the super clever Trevor Smith. Trevor makes AMAZING crochet pieces. awesomely amazingly clever dude! i also purchased a beautiful wooly beanie for the Otis boy's head and keep dreaming of the sweet crochet collar I wish i had bought.

The other knitty goods was of course the beautiful rainbow of fluffiness Sage is wearing. Created by my clever sister tikki this is the best milo I have seen yet. TRUE! I have seen many in my time, but i do believe this is the bee's knees of milo's.

So there you go. With all this beaut knitty goodness just finding it's way to my door there's no need to bother pulling out the old clickety sticks or the many many half finished knitty's ufo's hiding in my home. Why bother! Best leave it up to those who are ace at it.
Tully is off for her first birthday sleepover tonight. Six sweet, squealing, giggling 7/ 8 year olds for a whole night. What a brave Mumma.
Now Tully likes to give handmade gifts. Usually it's a babushka but recently she took an alien to school for show and tell( sooo cute) and it was decided that was exactly what her bestest friend would get for her birthday.
We sat down, chose the fabric and off I went. Of course, Tully discovered later her besties favourite colour was not purple but blue. Oh well....
Tonight we're eating all things tully doesn't like and living it up with 3 kids under the roof. Wonder if we can farm out the other 3 for the night too! can you imagine that!!! I can't.
sitting by the fire, listening to the inane rambling of Angelina Ballerina with two children transfixed to said ballerina whilst stuffing little Myf here. Quite a pleasant afternoon really.

Today's fabric piles waiting to be cut into little rabbit and bear shapes were all red and blue. This wasn't a conscious decision, just the fabrics that jumped out at me as I opened up the cupboards.

Do you have days were a certain palette is particular to you? I do. I love playing with colours. For me it's one of the most exciting parts of putting together a new creation. I have quite a large pile and will arrange and rearrange untilt the colours pop.

I love fabric. I prefer vitage or vintage influenced and scour the op-shops almost daily, often coming away with beauties such as the eiderdown above. Today my heart just about jumped out of my chest when I spied this beautiful piece below sitting in a pile in my fav oppie. I'd be chopping into it now if it didn't smell a wee bit like a granny's cupboard. I love everything about this print. The colours, the texture and imagery.... Just about perfection, except for the odd granny smell.

Over a year ago my Mum gave me this little cardi for my little girl Sage. She had knitted it for my nephew, but by the time she finished it realised it would not fit him. All I had to do was pop some buttons on it. It sat and waited....it was added to the pile of things to do. Do you have one of these piles? Mine are well intentioned but often never get done. I kept meaning to pop those buttons on. I kept looking for the perfect ones. I'd wanted wooden ones, but could never find the right size. A recent visit from my knitty sister tikki resulted in the gifting of these sweet red gingham buttons. Perfection. And only a few weeks later, I finally sewed them on.

Of course, the jacket no longer fitted Sage but thankfully it fits little Otis. Which pleases both Otis and I. I must say I am rather pleased with myself for actually finishing off something from my to do basket. Who knows this may see the finish and mending of numerous other pieces? Probably not, but here's hoping.

That's how my creative space started off today. The sewing of some buttons for the little dude. I would love to show you the rest of my creative space but it's no longer in my home. I now have my own space outside of home where I can sew. I am very pleased about this for a number of reasons.

The space is ran by the F Project and is housed in the origninal sewing spaces used by Sir Fletcher Jones many years ago. I love this linkage in history, sewing in a space that was originally sewing rooms.

One of the main reasons I am pleased about my new space is that I don't have to wait for the littlest two to do some of this.....

Before I can do some of this....

Today I'm sewing on the kitchen table, but after tomorrow you will find me sewing away an evening with no interruptions in my little sewing space. Churning out more of these types of guys.

This little alien dude has been waniting to be made for quite a while. I don't tend to make the larger aliens much anymore. I'm not sure why, but I've lost the mojo for alien making at the moment. Little aliens though, well they're the new kid on the block for this week.
Flat out like a lizard drinking. What a strange expression. I used to have a lizard and I must say i never saw him lying particularly low whilst taking a drink, but nevertheless that is what I am at the moment. Flat out with a capital F!

Of course I'm busy making stuff. This time its for the made artists markets in Port Fairy at easter time. Yep easter, that's next week. At present I have a whole of 4, maybe 5 softies made. And somehow i forgot that school holidays start next week, and that we are having lots of guests over the easter break. So needless to say, I'm sewing up quite a storm. This blogging bit is just so i can feed the little dude, can't be sitting doing nothing now can I whilst the little leach is attached.

To be honest I was also a bit chuffed with this Babbit and wanted to share her. Quite stoked I am with this little black furry critter. Her name is Essie and if she doesn't find a home at the market she'll be popping up online. I haven't sold one of these in the shop yet, so she may be the first. Or it may be one of her other friends like Clancy below. I am aiming on having LOTS of stock. LOTS! It's a really lovely little market which I am very very excited to be attending. The details? Well it's Saturday 7 April (day before my birthday;)), Saint John Anglican Church Hall, Barclay st Port Fairy 9am - 2pm.
Yet another newbie to the pint softie clan. I know, yes another! Of course this one is indeed for Easter which by the way falls on my birthday this year. How exciting I get pressies and all the chocolate! That's what I'm telling the kids anyway an needless to say they don't think it's a good idea. They do however, give the little rabbit a thumbs up. Hurrah for that.Megsiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04847091598702131804noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6309603070461764782.post-38746043053019429752012-03-01T16:32:00.001-08:002012-03-01T16:32:11.908-08:00keeping them busy

In the attempt to pinch a bit of time for mumma, buttons and felt are always a winner at keeping the little ones busy. Nothing more fun than little buttons to run through your hands and eventually piff all over the lounge.
My little sunshine girl is 3. She doesn't agree and thinks 2 is much nicer and "no, I am not having a birthday, you are" is in fact the way it is, but nope, she's three. That's it. Hello to the 3's. Oh no!!!!!!!!
I don't believe in terrible two's at all. Two is a great age. Not too much trouble at all really. But three!!! Oh dear. It's ok though, I know what I'm in for. Sage is number 3 inline so we've been there and survived...just. The little rednut still hasn't quite come out of the terrible 3's and he's neary 6!
Lucky for Sage she has the cuteness factor to match her temper, the sweetness to balance her fire and her charming and endearing quirkyness that melts my hard heart. Here's to the number 3, hopefully it will go at a slower pace than 2 did. My babies are growing up way too quickly and I'm not quite ready for that.Megsiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04847091598702131804noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6309603070461764782.post-45420033230041801432012-02-17T22:51:00.000-08:002012-02-17T22:51:43.713-08:00for my little babbit

When Sage was younger I used to call her my little rabbit. Being at the age when she just couldn't quite pronounce some words, she would respond with "I no babbit". Sooo cute and and would melt my heart every time. Now she is about to turn 3 and already seems to have grown up so much, yet she is still so teeny tiny.

For birthday number 3 I wanted to make her something different. Of course she has polly dollies, pixies and babushka's and tells me she doesn't want an alien nor a Mr. Teddy, harumph....thank you very much. So what to make for my every so gorgeous and ever so particular miss, why of course her very own babbit.

I have been wanting to make with fake fur for a while and after a visit to my crafty mumma who had a thing for making teddies at one stage and had quite a stash of fur to pass on, well I set to work. This little one came together quickly, but alas i ran out of polyfil. She sat on the sidelines for a few days waiting. I had to work in the shop, then make a babushka for gift for a birthday party and of course wash, feed, clean.....but then today came and the big fella took the little one out and I had time alone. My deadline is still two days away, but I've overachieved this year and got in early. No last minute midnight sewing this year! Sage's babbit is ready.

So here's my latest little obsession, my Hello baby bears. I've churned out heaps of these little dudes since my last blog post and have been so excited and pleased with how well they've been recieved. They tick quite a few boxes for me. They let me play with my fabric and use up lots of my smaller pieces, they let me play with colour and pattern and allow a little relaxing embroidery. They are quick to make and thus instantly rewarding and, most importantly, I know they are going off to meet a new little soul. i've designed these guys as a welcome earthside sort of a gift for newborns, but of course they are equally welcoming to any age group, but I do like the idea of them gifted as a friend to a new little one.

My latest pair, Banjo and Beverly are about to head into the jelly bean shop in the morning. Hopefully they'll find a loving home in no time at all.

Besides my bear obsession, I've also been doing the op-shop rounds. With the two elder kids at school, op shopping has become much easier. No more battling for old plastics toys to come home with us, or dog eared books. Yesterdays endeavours brought home this beautiful pillowcase in the most stunning fabric and a sweet little pattern. I find the 70's children's patterns are getting rarer and rarer to find. This one is in a size 6 which would still fit my big girl, but I wonder if she's getting too big for this style? I don't think so but she may think otherwise.

And lastly, i have to apologise for the side ways piccie but i turned the image when I loaded it, but I just can't do portait pics on blogger? Not sure why and am too much of a techno dunce to be bothered figuring it out. So here's my latest design. It's for my little Sage who turns 3 on Monday. She apty choose the fabric before she knew what I was making. Can you tell what it is? Not sure about sewing with fake fur though, it keeps getting up my nose.
This weekend I'm going to join in another new shop, the Jellybean Market Shop. So with any new venture, of course a new softie is warranted.

This is baby bear aptly and very originally named (ahem) as he is indeed little and made with bubba's in mind. This is the first version, I have bigger thing planned for this little one. But so far he's been warmly received by the littlest pint. Pretty good feedback really.

This is Frederick. He is the first of lots and lots of softies I plan to make this year. He will be popping up in my made it store tonight at 9pm est. You might notice there are some skirts in store right now too, if you care to take a peak. Just a bit of a promo, you know how it is.....

Two more weeks of school holidays and then I'm back down to 2 kiddies in the house for most of the day. Gee I have some plans. The wee little pop up shop fabric has closed up for the year, with plans underway for it's resurrection next silly season. I'm planning on popping some of my softies into another fabulous pop up shop, Jellybean Children's markets and will also be doing some great markets around the traps throughout the year and of course there is always the fabulous made it site.

I have so many ideas i'm busting to get a chance to make, alongside a ever growing desire to get back to my creative roots and find some time and space to paint again. Who knows what 2012 will bring, it's started of pretty ace though, so it's sure to get even better. Hope it's ace for you too! What have you got planned?
