process pics and springtime fun

This is the next step for the skipping girl. The dress has been appliqued and the painting begun. First the head, arms and legs....
Then the hair, feet and beginning of the rope. Next a few layers of paint to make the image more vibrant and all the decorative additions and.....

daaaaadaaaaarrrrr....... finished and up previewing in the shop

yo-yo boy is also hanging out in the shop waiting to go to a good home. These guys are just in time to celebrate the upcoming warmer weather. It was actually hot here today! It's still winter. I do love spring though. The warming weather is so exciting, and spring is such a lovely season. All the lovely blossoms, little lambs, more outside time, days getting longer, nearly the end of the football......

Hopefully i will have one more tee to pop up with these guys. At the moment i'm thinking maybe the fairy at the bottom of the last post in a smaller size. Going live tomorrow night at 8.30 SA time :D

revisiting old sketches

thought i'd do some progress pics for the next tee that's on the go. The top picis the material for the skipping girl's dress all ready to be appliqued, The next is the initial sketch. I decided not to go with the puffy sleeves, not sure why. going to applique witha green thread i'm thinking, although this might change.
i did this sketch the other day but below are some of my original sketches i did about 10 years ago. I'm planning on doing all of these again but will alter them to make them little girls. I did quite a few of the fairy chick. They always had the same o mouth too. I always imagined them with little buttons for their eyes and mouth so might do one and see how it looks. I exhibited one of the little fairy chicks in an exhibition with some other more serious pieces once. She's always been a fav.
I've also done a few boy versions today so the little fella's won't be missing out.yoyo chick

finishing off

one of my favourite stages of making the pixie tee's is the very final stage of the black outline. For me it is like a final unveiling where the pixie's character comes to life, although i love seeing them on kids as that is when they really look complete and full of character for me.

this little tee is a very special custom for a little girl who has a new baby brother. I haven't been doing customs but couldn't resist this little one's special story

i love trees

last summer i made the tree stencil for asher for one of his tee's. i have always loved it so i thought i'd pop one up in tikki's store and see if anyone else would like it. The tree silhouette is an image which i have used in my artwork for a long time. I really love the forms of gum trees on the horizon at dusk. The elegance and strength of their branches and trunks is really something which i have always loved to draw.

thecrab is another stencil i made for a friend last summer but i'm keeping this one for my little man who has been a bit crabby of late. ahhhh the temper of a red head

new hairdo for the tullmister

Tully had a big hair chop today and i love love love how it's turned out. She had about 10 cm cut off so it was quite long and i was a bit nervous about gettingitcut but i think the shorter dosuits the shape of her face so much more. She was such a little angel for the hairdresser and loved every minute of being pampered. Her hair looks so much healthier now and tully looks so much older.

Asher couldn't let the camera come out without jumping in front of it with a big grin and this shot was too cute to refuse! awwwww gee he's a little dude!

Two little great mates posing. And a simply gorgeous pose from the little princess.

a couple of my fav books

These illustrations are from a couple of my favourite books. Being book week i thought i might keep with a bit of a book theme. The first two are from "What do you do with a kangaroo" by Mercer Mayer. This was my book when i was little and it has the most gorgeous illustrations in it and the cutest story line. I still love reading it to tully and asher. The rhyme and pictures ar just fantastic. I've always loved this little chick in the credit bit at the front especially!

This is my latest score from a second hand book shop. The book is called "Gnomes" by Wil Poortvliet an illustrated by Rien Huygen. we had this book in my library at school and i used tolove it. i was pretty stoked topick it up the other day for $20. Mink condition and hard cover! The illustrations are just fantastic. Here are couple of pics i especially love.

my books :D

Well i couldn't find the pics of the books i made whilst at CMAG but i did find these little gems ! Almost as good. These pics are from some books i did when i was in Grade 1. The top one is (from L to r) lana, me, tikki and louise. We are all wearing our togs and i think i actually remember these little numbers! ties on the sides and all. Poor lana had to stand on a hill for some reason! I love louise's hair, boob tube and wrap around. Yes she did have a farrah fawcett type of flick.
The bottom one is of Lana and i. Poor lana is a tad sunburnt! It was easter and we're pretty stoked to have our eggs!
I love that i still have these little books. Great mementos of childhood.

books, books, books

Our house is always littered with books everywhere. Both Lach and i love books and so do both our kids. They have soooo many picture books that keep them both entertained for hours on end, which is a marvelous thing. My mum provided all of us kids with a love of books and it is something i'm very happy to have passed onto my kids. So with this week being book week and tikki being an english teacher we thought it was a good idea to celebrate with a book theme in her store. I haven't been able to achieve as much as i hoped but there are 4 little tees up previewing now and hopefully i will be able to randomly stock through the week. These 4 tee's will go live on Sunday night at 8.30 SA time. I have a few sketches done for some more and am pretty keen to see them come to life so to speak.
I have been wanting to post some pics from a book i illustrated when i worked at Canberra Museum and Gallery. It's an education resource which my fellow worker Lisa wrote and i illustrated. it was so stressfull as i only had a couple of weeks to do 2 books. Both the same illustrations but one was also collaged. Each page was about A2 size. A huge job and one that although i do love the pictures, the book also reminds me of the stress. Anyway i can't find the photos of the book anywhere! Oh well hopefully they'll show up and i'll be able to share.
happy book week everyone.....hope you have a lovely one :D

boo hoo...we've been sick :(

as the title says we've had a sick house this week. I was the first to go down with some sort of cough thing. Then poor little tully had high temps for a few days which always scares me as she has had febrile convulsions before and then next was poor little asher with temps and a yucky cough, which turned out to be tonsilitis. Poor us:( We're all back on track now, well mostly anyway. Needless to say, I haven't been very productive. Unfortunatley i haven't been abel to get as much done as hoped but should have a little bit up for the next stocking. At least 3-4 tees which should include a larger girls size. The next pikki tint number is in the hands of the talented tikki and i am really looking forward to seeing what she will come up with. We will be stocking for book week so watch out for some fabulous book themed wares in tikki's shop.

and a pic to make you smile :D

sigrid and abby

it's been a while since i've put a pixie up in tikki's store so i thought i better slip one up as a surprise. Sigrid the seamstress (size 1) is live in tikki's shop now.

this little pixie is called abby and is a special present for a little birthday girl who loves cats. This one is another trade - i'm slowly getting them crossed off my list :D

Next in line is a special pikki tint collaboration for book week along with some more pixies and appliqued tee's with a book theme for a special joint stocking for book week. We love books in this family so we thought we better celebrate them a bit:D

pics of what's been doin'

The little canvas and the princess pixie are part of a trade i did with a very talented wahm. I hope she likes them. Tully really like the fairy and i had to promise i would do another one for her.
paddy the panda is a surprise for a very generous mum.

what's doin'

i've been busy finishing off a few trades this week. Will post pics when i take them :D finally booked our camera in to be fixed (yay for tax returns) so hopefully i won't be using the dodgy old borrowed camera for too much longer.

I have sketches done for some new stuff and am just waiting on the mail man to bring me some tee's so i can get onto them. tikki and i are planning some cool stuff for book week so there won't be any big stockings on my part until then. One very special pikki tint piece will be gender neutral but i have to wait for the postie before i can start it! go postie go! I am planning on just whipping stuff as buy now intermittently throughout august so keep watch at tikki's store for surprise stockings.
and a pic to share cause what's a post without a pic. And he's such a cute little gecko we found up in NT a few years ago when holidaying with a herpetologist friend who is an absolute wiz at spotting reptiles. cute isn't he?
