my creative space

I have so many little things on the go right now but somehow I just keep adding to the list. I'm in total agreement to Holly Hobbie, yes indeed happiness is found in the little things, so beside Holly these little things are indeed making me happy.

I've been doing a little bit of t-shirt painting and pixie making but I'll share those pics when they're with their recipients. There's been a little bit of dress making, quilt hand sewing, knitting and my latest obsession, crochet of ye old granny square. I must admit that it took me a bit to figure out the crochet thing. First, I checked out the instructions in a prominent new crafting book but it was a bit gobbly gook to me, then I tried clever knitting extraordinaire sis but learning from a lefty was too hard, then you-tube..no luck, but then I went back to my crafting roots and got good old mum to show me, and voila...I got it. With the help of a little book she lent me I'm now churning out grannies and even eyeing off other crochet variations. Next amigurumi...am I dreaming????

Other little things making me happy are these little Heather Bailey finds from Spotlight. Who would have thought it! Admittedly they are scrapbooking supplies and I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do with them, but I love them just the same.

My little cooking mate makes me happy, how could he not! His missing his school girl sis terribly so we spend a lot more time doing stuff.

And of course this little miss always makes me happy. Snuggled close 24/7, My crafting companion.

more craftiness and a very cute thermos which I would love, over at Kirsty's

new

a new house complete with stunning decorative touches. I grew up in a very old house with lacework (well that's what i'm calling it, what is it called?) on the ceiling. I love it:)

a new sewing basket featuring an image by one of my very fav illustrators, picked up for a meagre $2.75. It was one of those finds where I had a moment or two of stunned shock upon seeing it, then gleefully snatched it up before anyone else could. Not that the gentlemen nearby would have been interested but you never know

new pixies, coming along slowly slowly

a new dress from a clever aunt for a not so new anymore little lass.

and a bundle of new fabric. What's new in your world?

summer lovin'

Finally a little bit of summer the last few days. It's been way too mild around here and although I'm not cherishing the thought of heatwaves or anything, it's so nice to have some real summer weather for a change.

We went for a quick visit to Warrny this weekend and Lach took the kids for a quick spin in the little boats down at Lake Pertobe. A huge hit for Asher, although Tully was lost in dreams of wedding boats and castles on the water.

I've also started thinking it's about time I get some stuff ready for the newest little member of our household. I can't believe how quickly this pregnancy has flown by and am a bit sorry to say I have made pretty much nothing for this little bubba. So I've been pulling out patterns and fabric from the stash and planning away. Pixies are in the plans of course, along with some printed tee's. But there are also plans for little quilts from these charm squares. I've never made a quilt before, I'm very lucky to have a clever mumma who makes them for my kiddies and myself. I have bought fabric so many times with the intention of making quilts though. This little charm pack has the perfect amount for a little quilt for the hammock or pram and are perfectly gender neutral. I've had a go at laying them out and getting the colour flow right so now just to sew them together.

I've also been adding to the stash. Found some great yellows finally via Kelani fabric store. Why are good yellows so hard to find?

I've also been very lucky that my clever mum is also a great knitter. These soakers are for the new bubba and are from wool from my stash which has been knitted and frogged a couple of times (I'm so not a knitter). Finally they have a new life and are just perfect. They're everlasting wonder soakers which is a definite fav pattern here for great fit and longevity.

And the last little number is from the ever talented and generous Tikki. Two little fish washcloths and some great washers for the bubba. The cloths for the bub were meant to be dishcloths but the cotton is too soft and lovely to be used to wash dishes and will be great for the bub. Tik whipped up another for Lily whilst they were staying before they kids bathed in no time flat, bloody amazing that girl....

3 weeks until D-day, although I know it will be more likely to be 5 weeks.....I'm a slow cooker

awesome Saturday finds

Today was a day of lucky finds for me. I love days like this when unexpected little bits of happiness come your way.

Firstly we headed off to the trusty old Lions Bargain centre which holds an absolute plethora of thrifty finds. I came away with a cute little shopping basket, tin, battered old suitcase and these unreal insulated beakers. The beakers kill me. They are made by the Newlyne Division of JGLaser & Co pty ltd Melbourne (so the bottom of the beakers tell me) and have such wonderfully quirky images on them. They also bear a type stating light motors down the side which makes me think they must be some sort of promotional beaker. They're quirky and cool and in great nick

Then it was off to the city where I was keen to check out a $2 + second clothing sale at one of my fav shops Irving Baby. Lach dropped me off and headed to the zoo with the kids (what a good dad) First I dropped into Eckersley's, as I was going past, in the hope they may have some risso pens. I was thinking there was a slim chance but I was nearly knocked over when I came across a gocco for sale. I was pretty pleased they had twice as much on it as what I had paid for mine from Japan but super stoked as they have mounts, screen for cloth, bulbs and have ordered me in all the other stuff I need. The very helpful dude behind the counter also uses gocco for his t-shirt business! Super stoked and can't wait to go in and chew his ear off about all things gocco!

Anyway, off to Irving Baby I go but sadly came away with zilch. Dropped in to the newsagents to pick up a copy of Frankie and find an article on the very shop I had just been in. Crazy!

I love Saturdays!

still here...

I haven't been abducted by little green men. I've just been drawing them:) He's a bit cute hey. Hopefully he'll make an appearance on something sometime soon.

I'm not too sure where the last week went. It sure wasn't in a flurry of productivity craft wise. I have finished yet another pixie for my tulster and nearly another one for the shop. I've been doing a little bit of doodling and thinking about the gocco. I can't believe I still haven't got it going. Well I can really:) I have a bit of a list of things to do and I really want to do them before I pull out the gocco or I know they just won't get done. I'm pretty keen to get that little printing machine going though!

In the next week or two I'm hoping to have a bit of a stocking of some tee's as it's been a while since I've done much. I have some new sketches, like the little alien dude that I would like to pop up. I also have some more girlie pixie softies cut out so they will hopefully appear before too long as well.

Tulster is a big kindy girl now having started pre-entry today. She loved it which is so cool. I'm in search of something cool for her to store her lunch in. I have seen some pretty fab lunch bag thingies on etsy made out of wetsuit material and I'd love to make her something similar. I don't think Lach will let me chop up his wettie so I may need to find an alternative to use. Hmmm....... any ideas?

softie love, love, love

Is this not one of the cutest shots!!!! I love it. What a little cherub my little girl can be....most of the time.

Today was glorious. It has been really cold lately which is a bit extreme after having so much heat for so long. Apparently Adelaide has had it's lowest temps for March as well as its highest. Crazy. Anyway, today had warmth in the air and blue skies so I grabbed the opportunity to take some shots of the softies to pop up in the shop. I've had a really lovely response to these so I'm really hoping that someone is going to love Millicent mushroom, the first little lass to go up for sale.

I love her bright vibrant colours! Pink, red and orange are just such a superb colour combination.

I'm working on some mates for her which will hopefully make an appearance before the end of the week. I would also really like to pop up a matching softie and t-shirt, how cute would that be for a gift! But we're all a little sniffly in the house at the moment so I guess we'll just have to see how that one goes. Still haven't picked up the paint brush for a while. Maybe tomorrow....

I'm planning on stocking alot of stuff randomly. I tried to do the hyena thing recently myself and I really sucked at it and just got really frustrated so I'm going to try not to do that to anyone else anymore. I figure surprises are always nicer, so if your keen on some pint wares, check the shop regularly and you may just find what you want sitting there waiting for you.

Oh and I'm a little bit *blush* embarassed about the give away I offered the other day. I had a couple of comments but no one really said they wanted it and I hadn't really said to say "i'd like the pattern pretty please". Sooooo let me know if you'd like the pattern I offered in the post below. Let's just say first in first served:) But please tell me if you want it in your post. Bit of a lame give away really. I promise a bigger and better one some time soon:)

t'was a lovely day today

I sat out in the autumn sun this afternoon making a pixie for my little man. It was just lovely, despite the squelching and gleefull giggles of two little nutters playing in the mud!

I actually don't think the shot captures the muddiness but it sure does capture the crazy hairdo of that little man! I don't think it was tamed at all today. Opps.

Anyway what's a crazy hairdomatter when there are trees to climb and mud to be found.

Tully must have just found it all a bit much as I found her like this 10 minutes ago. Covered in my mail for the day. Too cute and ohhh so peaceful.

great finds

Just in case you didn't know..... It's still bloody hot! Shesh. Crazy, crazy weather.

We have been spending way too much time inside due to the heat but ventured out yesterday to check out some shops on the other side of Adelaide I had been wanting to for ages. So over to nest studio and one small room in Croydon we headed. What a fabulous little street they have tucked over there in Croydon. If you live in Adelaide and haven't checked it out, go there! Both shops are just unreal. I bought a couple of little belle and boo cards and found the most devine little pair of sandals I really wish I had found at the beginning of summer. What a great little studio too. Some little people were very happily slapping paint around when we visited.

At one small room I got a bit of aunt cookie , hollabee and kristen doran wares. How cool to score such cool stuff from such awesome talented ladies. I really wanted some of the sprout fabric but that has to wait for the next visit.

Further down the street we quickly zipped into a very cool shop called hype and seek. I scored a beaut little shirt for Asher in there. The label has me a bit mystified though. Anyone know what they mean by non iron cotton, cause it needs an iron? Another great shop though. Sooo many cool things to be found. Kids had had enough by now and melt downs were promised so off home we wandered so I could finish....

this little chick. I should really wait until this little pixie is in her new home before I post pics, but I was a bit excited that she turned out as I intended (except one arm is a bit lower than the other, that I just had to share. Thanks for the lovely comments on the first pixie with the most unfortunate name. I'll let the little lass, whom this pixie is flying off to, have the naming rights. Although she did teach my daughter the hilarity of the word "fart" so she may not be granted a much nicer name. :)

softie love

This was my chrissy present from santa :D Well we also got a big whopping spanking new tent to live in whilst camping over in the beautiful and very quaint Port Fairy but these were a little more exciting ;) I grew up just inland from Port fairy and gee it's changed alot! It still has a wonderful timeless quality to it and i have so many fond memories of it, especially in summer.

So i've been bitten by a little love for softies. They are so quick and so rewarding to make. Pictured is Miss Buttons from Sew your own who I was planning on giving to my friend Anna however Tully tells me that Anna doesn't need dolls, she has a robot:) Apparently Miss buttons is a perfect friend for Chibi doll. Maybe Anna might just get another Miss Buttons.:)

The books all have so many fabulous ideas and i really NEED to make so many things from them so it may be a little while until anything new appear in the shop. I do however have a trillion (well nearly) sketches from camping and relaxing that are patiently waiting for me to give them some attention but for the moment I'm enjoying the air of holiday which is lingering in our house. I hope it's lingering in yours too:)
